PhD student position in PET/MR image reconstruction and data evaluation
The Institute of Radiopharmaceutical Cancer Research (HZDR, Dresden, Germany) invites applications of physicists and engineers as a PhD Student to work on:
PET image reconstruction with MR-based attenuation correction and
Analysis of clinical PET/MR data in oncology.
The position will be available from 01.06.2015. The employment contract is initially limited to three years. The salary is based on the collective agreement TVöD-Bund (starting at ca. 1150 Euro/month netto).
About us:
HZDR is operating a combined whole body PET/MR imaging system. The system is used by an interdisciplinary team of scientists in the Department of Positron Emission Tomography of the Institute of Radiopharmaceutical Cancer Research together with colleagues from the University Hospital Dresden. The potential of this new technology for offering diagnostic information superior or complementary to conventional PET or PET/CT is sub-stantial. Evaluation of this technology is one of the central tasks of our group in the next years.
Our scientific focus is establishment of quantitative combined functional PET/MR imaging in oncology, notably for improvement of radiation treatment planning and therapy response control. In order to achieve this goal, substantial methodological work regarding optimized quantitative imaging procedures and data evaluation strategies are necessary.
Requirements:
very good marks in exams and diploma in physics/mathematics/engineering
adequate programming skills in at least one programming language suitable for implementing numerical software (preferably C/C++)
experience with development and implementation of computer-based data analysis procedures
adequate knowledge in general mathematical modeling and simulation
existing experience in tomographic imaging would be desirable
ability to adopt quickly to the new field and the given tasks
interest in tomographic medical imaging
willingness to work in an interdisciplinary group of physicists, computer scientists, physicians and biochemists
ability to work independently and to develop innovative solutions including publication of results
Tasks:
further development of our high resolution iterative PET image re-construction with a special focus on incorporating novel techniques for improvement of MR-based attenuation correction including the so-called MLAA algorithm
development of new data evaluation procedures for analysis of clinical PET/MR investigations in oncology
contributions to on-going multi-disciplinary research projects in the-context of functional PET/MR imaging in oncology in close collaboration with the University Hospital Dresden
participation in administration of the IT infrastructure related to the PET/MR system
