Researcher – Social Network Analytics and User Behaviour
1.5 year Fixed-Term whole-time Contract (in the first instance)
Cork Institute of Technology invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the positions of Researcher at Nimbus Centre.
The Nimbus Centre has over 60 staff and is involved in an extensive range of applied research and innovative embedded computing system projects with partners across Europe. We have a broad portfolio of projects in the Internet of Things and Smart City space covering domains such as Energy, User Behaviour and Interaction, Transport, Security and Water. This is a very vibrant sector of the Irish technology economy and the growth of the centre’s multi-discipline team reflects this. Nimbus is based in a large purpose built facility on the CIT campus with state of the art research equipment.
Reporting to the Project Manager the researcher will contribute to the design, development and validation of a district wide user behaviour experimental platform, which aims to support the centre’s research focus on the smart city and smart people. The research position is funded from E2District project supported by the European Commission under the EU H2020 program. Other partners collaborating on the project include United Technology Research Centre, Veolia, CSTB (France), Acciona (Spain) and Cork City Council, among others.
Interested candidates should hold a Primary Honours Degree (second class or higher) in Computer Science, or Social Media or a related discipline with a keen interest in research. Graduate candidates are encouraged. This work is inherently multidisciplinary and the successful applicant will need to collaborate with engineers, social and computer scientists. Therefore, the candidate has to be able to work well in a team environment.
The position will specialise in a challenging research topic which may allow transition to a PhD research position for highly motivated candidates.
The candidate should have a good knowledge and experience working with all or a subset of the following areas and technologies:
• Machine Learning, Pattern Recognition
• Social Network Analysis
• User engagement strategies
• Mobile social behavior analytics
• Natural language processing
• Experience with API of the major online social networks (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Google+, Foursquare)
• Ability to work and extend software libraries and contribute to the Integrated System for User behaviour analytics and engagement.
Applicants should note that travel within the EU will be a requirement for this position.
Salary: €33,975 to €41,630 per annum (based on experience)
€42,960 to €49,487 per annum (for exceptional candidates)
